What are they like around the dinner table
Listening to the hearings over Samuel Alito’s nomination to the Supreme Court makes me wonder what these Senators are like when they’re off the job and hanging out at home. Do they ramble on and on with self serving stories and lengthy tangetal quotations from over researched background material before asking their spouse “how was your day honey?”
Not one of them could resist five or ten minutes of grandstanding before asking Alito a question or two. {The questions coming in two varieties, insulting to Alito’s dignity with their banal and shallow nature (The Republicans) or repetative and guileless in their attempts to pin Alito down on the same issues. (The Democrats)}
Someone needs to teach the Senators about letting an interview breath so the person being questioned talks themselves into the answer you seek just to fill the silence. You’d they’d have picked that one up from all the reporters around them, but they were probably too busy filling those awkward silences themselves to notice.
